Mistress Of The Dark's Story
Chapter 2
Years had passed and Mave was grown up to be a beatiful little girl. Her father, Taltos, had taught her how to fight like a warior, while the midwife, who became her teacher and mentor, was teaching her the fine points of magic. The midwife, also known as Llissa was a wizard. However she knew the Warlord did not know and so she would keep this secret. She knew that if the warlord ever found out, he would kill her instantly. Although she was a wizard, his power far exceeded hers. But she had hope in this child who she raised.
By the time Mave had turned 10, she was able to heal small creatures with her powers, but she too kept this secret from her father. From a young age, Taltos taught his daughter to become a great warrior. Something she was able to exceed at and become one of the greatest warriors in the land. Her skills were second only to her fathers. By the time she was 20, she had her own small army to command and led them on many outings going around destroying villages and greating havoc among the people. Her name became known throughout the land and when heard, people would tremble in fear. And although Mave was fearce, deep down she had a goodness which she kept hiding from her father. Only Llissa knew of this goodness and through that was able to teach her the ways of the Order.
Although Mave loved her father, many times she wondered why the Order of Wizards had never tried to stop him, but Llissa would tell her that the Order didn't have a strong enough hold on this world. The Order was something that expanded many worlds, but on this world, Akkalla, Taltos made sure The Order stayed small and weak. Only a few wizards knew of Llissa and her powers. Her mission was to teach Mave the ways of The Order. It was their hope that Mave would be able to stop Taltos and destroy him, but they knew of the hardship this would cause her, and so Mave was never informed.
As years passed, Mave started to desire companionship, something she had never had. Her father would kill any man who tried to make a "pass" at his daughter. And so Mave was forced to seek one secretly. She took a few selected soldiers that she had personaly trained, and traveled her lands in search of a man. She found many, but none that she could truly love or that truly loved her. During her travels, she was able to secretly use her powers to help poeple. She would heal the sick and help the hungrey grow crops by making their soil fertile.
She had crossed the land and still had not found a companion. She knew she would have to seek one else where. And so she asked Llissa to show her how to travel between worlds. This was something very few wizards knew and Llissa did not know, but she knew someone that did. In order to keep Taltos from spreading his evil to other worlds, The Order had kept one wizard on Akkalla to keep him from doing so. His name was Kasseus and he was a very powerful wizard, but it took all his powers to stop Taltos from leaving this world, and to keep Taltos from finding him.
It was a long process and probably the hardest lesson Mave had ever taken. It was years before Mave was able to travel between worlds using her own powers. Many wizards had tried to learn, but most failed or their powers weren't strong enough. In Mave, it was expected she would not be powerful enough, and so it was a great surprise to The Order. She said her goodbyes to Llissa, dispatched her small army and left Akkalla in search of companionship. Little did she know how angrey her father would become after learning of this.
